Students in 6H2 recently completed a cross-curricular project related to homelessness. The idea for the project came about after reading the book, The Bridge Home (part of the Global Read Aloud). In this book, four children become homeless and live on the streets in India.

After doing some research, students created and presented to their Social Studies class a list of items they thought should be included in care kits for the homeless. A vote was then taken to finalize the list of items. Next, in Language Arts, students wrote letters to local businesses requesting monetary donations to purchase the items for care kits. Students raised $2,170.10! Once supplies were purchased, students and their families assembled care kits at Exhibition Night. Kits were then donated to the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter in Davenport.
